In the January-November period, 221.407 Chinese tourists visited Turkey. Although the summer season is past, the number of Chinese tourists continued to grow. November was the month that most Chinese tourists went to Turkey.

Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced the number of Chinese tourists visited Turkey. According to ministry, the number of Chinese tourists increased to 28,791 by 89.03% compared to the same period of the last year. Although the summer season has already gone, the number of Chinese tourists continued to grow. November was the month that most Chinese tourists went to Turkey.

In January-November period, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Turkey increased by 44.7% to 221,407 compared to the same period of the last year. If the increase continues at the same rate, the number of Chinese tourists will reach 250,000 at the end of 2017.

2015 was the year that most Chinese tourists, 313000 visitors, visited Turkey.

2018 was declared as “Year of Turkey” in China. The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism aims to attract 1 million Chinese tourists in 2018. However, the current number of flights shows that maximum 300,000 Chinese tourists can come to Turkey.

The Chinese are a bit hesitant to come to Turkey due to the terrorist attacks, mainly occurred in 2016. The most significant concern is safety.

The increases in the second half of the year indicate that terrorist attacks have begun to disappear from the memory of Chinese tourists slowly. But security is still one of the most significant drawbacks.

The authority of the Chinese government in the country is very powerful. The party is the absolute sovereign of the people, and the directing effect is very high. The Chinese government does not support openly going to Turkey for now. Statements of government officials through the press or making things easier for Turkey`s promotional activities will almost certainly blow up the number of Chinese tourists in 2018, as it was in 2015. But the concerns of the Chinese authorities and tourists have not been overcome. Withdrawing state of emergency from shelves may be an excellent step to attract more tourists.

To reach significant numbers, the number of Chinese tourists coming to Turkey to China’s business. As seen in the example of China, South Korea, it uses the people who go abroad with its tourism activities as a political power element. It can threaten to reduce the number of Chinese tourists when they have problems with the countries. The soft spot of the China-Turkey relations is the Uighur issue. If the Uighur issue becomes a problem between China and Turkey, China will use this card without hesitation.
